The government has set sights on restructuring the foreign service of the country.
Accordingly, representatives will be assigned for countries that currently do not have Sri Lankan diplomatic presence, and it is significant that they will be based at the Ministry of External Affairs in Colombo.
When inquired by our news team, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the aim of this initiative is to minimize the expenditure on foreign diplomatic services as well as to organize diplomatic affairs.
However, the countries to receive remote diplomatic services have not been decided so far.
A spokesperson at the ministry told our news team that Foreign Administration Division at the Ministry is currently working on the program.
In addition, the ministry intends to obtain the approval from the relevant countries to operate remote diplomatic services from Sri Lanka.
