Two drug kingpins who are allegedly involved in the Rs. 1 billion heroin racket have been arrested after they surrendered to police.
The two arrested are 38 year old Sundarage Sumudu Tharanga Fernando and 39 year old Iddagoda Bandara Anil Rohan.
Police said the two suspects are residents of Negombo.
In addition, the main suspect of the racket, Mohammad Muwas Mohammad, a resident of Kalubowila was arrested this morning at the Katunayake International Airport following his arrival in Sri Lanka from India.
A cache of 110 kilograms of heroin was confiscated recently in southern seas in a joint operation carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau.
The drugs were being transported by an Iranian vessel from Pakistan.
The 14 suspects of Iranian and Pakistan origin who were arrested in the raid are being further questioned.
Meanwhile 95 kg of Kerala grass have been seized from Kodikamam in Jaffna last night.
Police said the drugs were seized while being transported by bicycle.
However the cyclist had fled the scene. On an earlier occasion too, police seized 100 kg of Kerala grass from Jaffna.
