The post-mortem of a woman - who died while receiving treatment at the hospital -reveals that her death was caused by the swelling of the cerebellum.
The 83 year old woman was admitted to the Chilaw Hospital, after being assaulted with a pipe by another woman.
The incident took place following a dispute which occurred at a Devalaya in Chilaw on the 29th of March.
The victim has lodged a complaint at the Chilaw Police, and informed them not to proceed with legal action against the assailant.
Accordingly, the police advised both factions and settled the matter.
The woman, a mother of two, was admitted to Chilaw Hospital on the 1st of this month, but died yesterday due to a sudden illness while receiving in house treatment at the hospital.
Later, Chilaw Acting Magistrate Nihal Sumanaweera was given instruction to conduct a post-mortem.
Chilaw Hospital Judicial Medical Officer D.K. Wijewardena revealed that the cause of death was swelling of the cerebellum.
