The government has declared a general amnesty period for the public to hand over illegally possessed weapons.

The Defence Ministry said during the period from April 25 to May 5, individuals can hand over weapons that are not registered to police stations.

They can also hand over the weapons to the District Secretary or the Divisional Secretariat office.
