The National Police Commission says that charge sheets have been served to 12 policemen who are allegedly involved in the death of Sumith Prasanna of Embilipitiya.
Sumith Prasanna died on January 7 after a clash with police during a party in Maha Ela
The Commission stated that the 12 policemen who were charged were attached to the Embilipitiya police station at the time of the incident.
The committee appointed by the Police Commission to probe this incident has prepared the charge sheets.
A Commission spokesman told our news team that the commission will meet today to discuss future action to be taken against the suspects.
Former Embilipitiya ASP D.C. Dharmarathna has already been in remand in connection with the incident.
However Embilipitiya HQI and several other policemen are still at large despite a Court order issued previously to have them arrested.
Meanwhile, following a court order, the body of Sumith Prasanna was exhumed on March 15 before Embilipitiya Additional magistrate Prasanna Fernando.
