The 60th anniversary of the people’s victory of 1956 was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the BMICH.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and former Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna were participating in the ceremony.

However former president Mahinda Rajapaksa was absent during the celebration.

During the ceremony, a commemorative stamp was also issued to mark the 60 anniversary of the people’s victory in 1956.

Delivering the Key note address, Professor Sarath Wijesuriya said that certain monks have been discrediting the venerated yellow robe.
