Sri Lankan refugees in India have complained the lack of lodging in Sri Lanka adding that the issue has not been addressed satisfactorily.
The Hindu reports refugees who have returned to the island from their camps in Tamil Nadu are urging a financial package to be granted for the construction new houses and rebuilding old ones.
They also call for a special programme for the landless.
The report said the Organization for Eelam Refugees’ Rehabilitation has prepared a proposal, covering seven stages of refugee repatriation including travel, subsistence and livelihood.
According to the NGO’s calculations, each family will have to be provided with around 3.5 million rupees.
