CID Launch Investigation Into Laggala Police Firearm Theft - [Photos]

The Criminal Investigation Department has (CID) commenced an investigation pertaining to the incident where 6 firearms including a T56 assault rifle were stolen from the Matale Laggala Police Station yesterday (Thursday 14th) morning.

The Acting IGP SM Wickremesinghe has instructed officers to conduct an immediate investigation into the matter.

The Police said a T56 and 9 revolvers were allegedly stolen by an individual around 1 yesterday morning.

Four Police officers had reportedly been on duty at the time of the incident.

The police has also commenced a separate investigation headed by Acting DIG of the Central Province.

3 police officers have been suspended after firearms were stolen from the Laggala Police Station early last morning. Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said those suspended included a sergeant and a constable.

The suspensions were the culmination of an investigation supervised by the ASP in charge of the Matale district. The suspended police officers were accused of negligence of duty and recklessness.
