Police says that over 100 statements have been recorded regarding the firearms theft in Laggala.

A senior police officer stated that a gem businessman and two police constables are among them.

The firearms recently recovered after being stolen from the Laggala Police, have been brought to the CID for further investigations.

According to the police media spokesman’s office, they intend to obtain fingerprints on the firearms and arrest the suspects in connection with the robbery.

Police further noted that they have not obtained sufficient information concerning the suspect who committed the robbery.

The T-56 firearm and 5 Revolvers stolen from the Laggala police were found from the premises of Sanda-gala Vihara in Walle-le-wela.

The firearms were abandoned near a water tank of the temple, which is located 5 kilometers away from the Laggala Police.

A person who entered the Laggala Police at 1.00 am on the 14th, opened the storage box of firearms using a key found inside the police and fled with the firearms.

Later, the police headquarters took measures to interdict three officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.
