A man has died after falling off a replica of the Avukana Buddha Statue which was to be unveiled by President Maithripala Sirisena in Matugama area.

An adivasi person, 52, has thus died when he attempted to remove a hive from the statue.

It is reported that Rs. 90 million was spent to build the statue.
