Pujith Jayasundara appointed as the new IGP

The Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundera has been appointed the 34th IGP of Sri Lanka.  

The President’s office stated that the letter of appointment was handed over to the new IGP at the Presidential Secretariat today.

Earlier the president has submitted the names of three senior DIGs to the Constitutional Council to be considered for the post that fell vacant after the retirement of IGP N.K. Ilangakoon.

The appointment was made following recommendations made by the Constitutional council when it met on last Monday.

The New IGP joined the police service as an assistant superintendent on May 20th 1985.  

Later he was promoted to the rank of superintendent of police in 1991.  

Subsequently he was promoted senior DIG on June 10th 2010.
