It has been revealed that several police officers held a party at the Laggala police prior to the firearms theft.

A senior police officer stated that several outsiders attended the party.

The T-56 firearm and 5 Revolvers stolen from the Laggala police were found at the premises of Sanda-gala Vihara in Walle-le-wela.

The firearms were abandoned near a water tank of the temple, which is located 5 kilometers away from the Laggala Police.

A person who entered the Laggala Police at 1 AM on the 14th, opened the storage box containing firearms using a key found inside the police station and fled with the firearms.

Later, police headquarters took measures to interdict 3 officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.

Police stated that 150 statements have been recorded regarding the firearms theft in Laggala.

The stolen firearms recently recovered, were brought to the CID for further investigations.
