The National Buddhist council convened yesterday at the Presidents secretariat under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The council comprise of 29 monks covering all parts of the island.

The council was established to revive and create a righteous society.

The monks notified the President that the chief prelates of the Asgiri and Malwathu chapters were also made aware of the responsibility of the council.

During the meeting it was also proposed to establish a special committee to listen to grievances and look into the well being of young monks.
