The resolution demanding a separate province for Tamil speaking people was passed yesterday by the Northern Provincial Council.

The resolution was presented by the TNA and, was voted against, only by the two members who represent the UPFA.

The resolution also proposed to form the new province by merging the North and the East.

It is reported that this resolution will be presented to Opposition leader R. Sampandan on April 28th.

Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council C V Vigneshwaran expressed these views.

Meanwhile, UPFA Councilors Wannihaamige Jayathilaka and Dharmapala Senevirathna opposed the proposal.

Councillor Dharmapala Senevirathna stated that if such states are to be created a separate Sinhalese Province should be carved out including Vavuniya.
