Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe paid last respect to the remaining of the Former Speaker and Minister M.H. Mohamed who passed away this morning.

Minister Rauf Hakeem and MP Dinesh Gunawardena were also among many politicians who paid last respect to late M.H.Mohamed at his residence in No. 513, Bauddaloka Mawatha, Colombo.

Late M.H. Mohamed was born on 15th June 1921 and received his education in Wesley College, Colombo.

He was the Mayor of Colombo in 1960-62 and later was elected to parliament and has written history as the first Muslim Mayor of Colombo.

Being the 14th Speaker of Sri Lanka Parliament, he played a prominent role in the impeachment motion against former President Ranasinghe Premadasa.

The burial ceremony of late M.H. Mohamed will be held at Kuppiyawatte Muslim cemetery, Colombo 08.

Former Speaker MH Mohamed passes away

Vetran Politician, Former Speaker Alhaj MH Mohamed passed away this morning.

He served as the 14th Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament from March 9, 1989 to June 24, 1994.

Alhaj MH Mohamed was also elected as the first ever Muslim Mayor of Colombo and served from  1960-62.

His remains lie at No. 513, Bauddaloka Mawatha, Colombo and Janaza (burial ceremony) will be held at 3.30 pm today.
