Sweden’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom who is currently in the island has stated that it is not possible to provide separate aid for the north and east provinces.

She stated this, turning down a request made by the Northern Province chief minister C.V Vigneswaran for aid for the respective province.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister added that Sri Lanka is now accustomed to a middle class economic pattern.

She also further inquired from the Northern Province chief minister if the federal system will be successful amidst disapproval by the people of the south and political parties.

Northern Chief Minister responded stating that in the past in certain instances there have been agreements in favour of the federal system for the north and east.
