National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansa says that the Yahapalana government is plotting to overly scrutinize electronic media by establishing an independent media regulation authority.

This remark was made in a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.

He further accuses the government for attempting to cover the true facts, figures and news about the current government in name of an independent media regulation authority framework.

Wimal Weerawansa further unveiled that a powerful minister’s verbal threatening to an owner of one of Sri Lanka’s leading media organizations to publish news in favour of the government or to get their media license cancelled.

The MP severely criticized this government’s vivid hostility towards electronic media where as media organizations are condemned inside the parliament and ministers threaten media organizations while establishing an independent media regulation authority to fulfill their media aspirations by impeding true service of media.
