Opposition leader R. Sampanthan states that no one should fear for the request of a separate province.

Since the majority living in north are Tamils there is no fault in giving them a separate province he stated this while participating in a special interview with Hiru Gossip.

He also stressed that the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) is requesting for a separate province for Tamil speaking people not a state.

He further added that the proposal approved by the Northern Provincial Council will be decided by the Central Government not by the Northern Provincial Council.
