Three Pakistani nationals who attempted to smuggle illegal drugs by swallowing them were arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau.
Nearly 1 kg of heroin worth about Rs. 6 million has been recovered from the arrested suspects.
The first Pakistani was arrested while he was staying at a hotel in the Colpetty area on 28th night.
Twenty five heroin pellets have been recovered from this suspect, after he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Another Pakistani who arrived from Karachi was arrested last night, and 26 heroin pellets have been recovered upon admission to the Negombo Hospital.
Meanwhile, the third Pakistani was arrested by the Airport Customs and the Narcotics Bureau, and 20 heroin pellets have been recovered from him.
Police Narcotics Bureau has seized 131 kg of heroin smuggled into the country within the last four months.
The value of the seized stock of drugs has been estimated to nearly Rs. 786 million.
This includes the 110 kg of heroin which was seized during the arrest of foreigners at the Southern coastal strip.
A senior official of the Police Narcotics Bureau noted that the Pakistanis attempted to smuggle heroin pellets to compensate the stock of drugs that were seized.
