Six people were injured when the van they were travelling in collided with an elephant and its baby in Trincomalee road, Habarana, last night.

Hiru Correspondent said the elephant is in serious condition and its calf has died.

Wildlife officials believes that the mother elephant, which has found haven in the forest, is also at a risk of dying.

The injured people were rushed to Habarana and Dambulla hospitals.

The driver's state is in critical condition, sources say.
