LG Polls To Be Held In Early 2017, says Minister Faizer Mustapha

Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustapha stated that the government will hold Local Government (LG) Elections in the first quarter of 2017.

Speaking to the media today he said that the questions regarding delimitation will be resorted by next month.

The government had insisted that it will not hold the election under the present electoral system.

The delimitation has been done to introduce the new electoral system, but there were many complaints regarding the delimitation, the government also says.

President Maithripala Sirisena also gave an assurance recently that the LG polls will be held early next year.
