Thajudeen Murder: Crime Division OIC of Narahenpita Police Further Remanded

The former Crime Division OIC of Narahenpita police Sumith Perera who is in remand for concealing evidence of the murder of Wasim Thajudeen has been further remanded till 12th of this month.

When the case was taken before Colombo Additional magistrate Augusta Athapattu, the CID informed Court that suspicion has been raised during the investigation. 

CID also told Court that it is the responsibility of the Traffic Division to conduct an investigation involving an accident of this nature. However the investigation carried out was conducted by the Crime Division OIC.

The lawyer who appeared for the suspect told court that his client performed his duty according to law.  He said that his client has handed over the reports of the investigation to his superiors.

Having considered the facts submitted by both factions, the Magistrate informed the CID to continue its investigation impartially. 

She also told the CID that conducting such an impartial investigation would ensure the transparency of the incident as well.

Sumith Perera was arrested on April 20th in connection with concealing evidence of the murder of Thajudeen.
