The JVP says that supplementary estimate proposed to parliament by the government yesterday was not approved.
MP Vijitha Herath stated that a decision will be taken at the party leaders meeting in parliament today.
A tense situation popped up in parliament during the approval of the estimate.
A debate was held with regard to the estimate and a voting was requested by the opposition.
However, during the voting a tense debate took place between the government and opposition ministers with regard to the number of MP’s present.
This was due to government MP’s arriving at the well of the house during the voting session.
Following the voting MP Lucky Jayawardena issued the results of the voting.
Accordingly, 33 votes were received for the estimate while 31 votes were received against it.
Therefore, the supplementary estimate was approved with a majority of 2 votes.
However MPs of the joint opposition examined the video footage during the recounting of the votes.
