The Colombian government says it will launch air raids against gangs involved in drug trafficking and illegal mining, foreign media reports.

Defence Minister Luis Carlos Villegas has said the full force of the state, including the military, would be used to fight them.

Officials say there are three criminal gangs with about 3,000 members.

"This (air raids) will allow the application of the entire force of the state, without exception, against organised armed groups, against powerful mafias," Mr Villegas said.
