Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando states that the increase in telecommunication charges along with the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase will not affect the public drastically.

The Minister said the government will not rationalize the increase in the VAT stressing it was a necessary move taking into consideration the country’s economic status.

Speaking to the BBC Minister Fernando said Sri Lanka is the only country where telecommunication charges are affordable.

The Minister added the people will witness positive results in future due to the governments long sited and long term plans.
