Over 423 Firearms Surrendered During Amnesty Period

Over 423 illegal firearms have been surrendered to the authorities during the amnesty period declared by the government from 25th April to 6th May.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said 423 firearms were handed over to authorities during the amnesty period declared by the Ministry of Defense to return illegal weapons.

During the amnesty period, holders of illegal weapons were asked to surrender them to the nearest Divisional Secretariat, District Secretary offices or police stations.

According to the Army spokesman, the highest number of firearms has been handed over from the Gampaha district.
