50 Bogala graphite employees stage an underground protest

Over 50 workers from Bogala Graphite are staging a fasting protest, 1 670 feet underground. The protest is in relation to several issues including a salary increment of five thousand rupees.

Deputy Secretary of the Inter Union Federation P Hettiarachchi told our news team another 150 ground workers have launched a strike to show solidarity to their fellow miners.

When our news team contacted the management of Bogala Graphite, its chief executive officer Amila Jayasinghe said that the company does not have the financial ability to fulfill the demands of the employees.
