Risk of landslides in Ratnapura due to adverse weather

The National Disaster Management Centre states that 400 individuals have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.

Deputy Director of the Centre Ravi Jayarathna stated that people in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kandy and Polonnaruwa are affected.

The Met Department states that showery condition are expected to be enhanced due to a low level atmospheric disturbance over the island

Showers or thundershowers will occur periodically in the Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces, and will develop elsewhere after 2.00pm

Duty Meteorologist Srimal Herath states that Heavy falls above 100mm are also likely at some places.

Meanwhile the land slide warning issued to Ibulpe and Balangoda areas in the Ratnapura District is still in effect.
