State Finance Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana said that irrespective of their status, action will be taken against the Sri Lankans whose names are leaked in Panama papers.

The minister announced the government’s stance towards those who hold offshore accounts with the Mossack Fonseca law firm during a media conference held in Colombo yesterday.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists released to the Internet last night, the details of about 200,000 individuals, and institutes in the world who hold offshore accounts with Mossack Fonseka law firm in Panama.

They have maintained these secret accounts intending to evade domestic tax and for other reasons.

The papers have revealed information on three Sri Lankan companies, seven mediators and names of 65 individuals.

Accordingly, the latest Panama documents have revealed addresses of 19 Sri Lankans, 22 accounts and names of affiliated financial services and corporate consultation institutions.

Previously, information of 43 accounts of 42 Sri Lankans was leaked by the Panama papers.

Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam noted during a media conference at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha that the government intends to take necessary measures with regard to the matter.
