Cloudy skies with rains in most parts of the Island

Thursday, 12 May 2016 - 6:50

Due to an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, cloudy skies can be expected particularly in the southern half of the island, the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern, Uva, Central and Southern provinces.

“Showers or thundershowers will develop elsewhere in the afternoon and night,” the department stated.

Meanwhile, very heavy falls (around 150 mm) are also likely at some places.

Officials warned that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers and requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
