Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu are demanding that the monthly assistance given to each refugee family at a camp in Valayapatti in Paramathi be given to them.

The refugees say the monthly assistance was not given for the past two months, The Hindu newspaper reported.

Over 2,000 refugees living in the camp for many years staged a protest over their demand.

Every month, the family head was given assistance of Indian Rs. 1,000, children above 12 years were given Indian Rs. 750 and children less than 12 years were given Indian Rs. 400.

But it was said that they were not given the assistance for the past two months.

When the camp inspector visited the camp on Monday, members questioned him on the non-receipt of the assistance.
