The Defence Secretary, Karunasena Hettiarachchi says that any commemorations organised in the north, that pose a threat to national security will not be permitted.

Addressing a media conference in Jaffna yesterday, Northern Provincial Councilor M.K. Sivajilingam said that starting today until May 18th, the nation will remember the Tamils who died in the North.

When inquired about Sivajilingam’s statement, Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said anybody can hold commemorations, but such events should not threaten the country’s national security.
