State Minister of Defense Confirms That There Is No Threat towards Security of VIPs

State minister of defence Ruwan Wijewardena says that there is no doubt that former defence minister Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was targeted to be assassinated by the LTTE.

Attending a media briefing in Colombo yesterday the minister stated this in response to a question raised by a journalist. 

This was with regard to the statement made by field Marshall Sarath Fonseka in parliament where he stated that the attempt on the former defence secretary was staged.

In addition, journalists raised the question if MP Vijayakala Maheswaran had requested a statue of remembrance to be erected in connection to the LTTE.

Meanwhile, Defence minister of the state, Ruwan Wijewardena responded to a statement made by minister Rajitha Senaratne regarding the life threats posed to him and other VIPs during a media briefing held to inform cabinet decisions.
