The Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran made a statement yesterday about those who lost their lives, including LTTE members, in the final phase of war.
At a ceremony held in Colombo he said that various statements already made about the event are of personal opinion.
The event to commemorate the dead in the North has been organized by a Northern Provincial councillor M.K. Sivajilingam.
Their commemoration which started yesterday will conclude in Mulliwaikal, the location where the last battle took place in 2009.
He went onto say that the commemoration organized by the Northern Provincial Council is limited to religious rites on May 18th.
He also reiterated that the proposals made by the Northern Provincial Council to the Constitutional Amendment will not lead to dividing the country.
