The Railway Department states that steps will be taken to arrest those who travel without tickets from tomorrow.

Government has decided to double the fines for train passengers who travel without paying the fare or riding in a higher class carriage than the ticket is bought for.

Accordingly, the existing maximum fine of 1,500 rupees for such offense will be increased to 3,000 rupees.

The measure is taken to increase the fines for offences related to railway tickets with the view of providing a safe and efficient railway service, increasing the income of the railway department.
