Lands of SLTB Depots to be leased

Sunday, 15 May 2016 - 13:49

SLTB has devised a plan to lease lands which belongs to the depots operating under SLTB, to acquire funds for the payment of EPF of its workers.

Accordingly, Secretary to the Transport Ministry Nihal Somaweera noted that the Board has decided to curtail the number of depots, and to offer the surplus lands on long term lease.

Currently SLTB owns 120 depots, while the amount of lands extends to over thousands of acres.

The proposal was presented by the SLTB, due to the lack of funds since the total sum of money required for the payment of EPF and ETF of the SLTB workers amount to Rs. 11 billion.

In addition, a proposal has been made to curtail the number of workers from 36,000 to 24,000, in addition to offering retirement for the volunteer workers.
