The highest rainfall was reported in Pottuvil with 145.8 mm, the Department of Meteorology said.

‘The low pressure area in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, now located over Batticaloa coast. It is likely to intensify further in to a depression and likely to continue affecting the weather over the country and surrounding sea areas. However it is expected to move away from Sri Lanka by tomorrow (16th) towards India,’ the department stated.

Cloudy skies and Showers or thundershowers are expected over the most parts of the island. Very heavy falls (around 150 mm) are also likely at some places.

Meanwhile, water levels in reservoirs has risen in Puttalam district. Eluwankulam in Puttalam was flooded due to the rains hindering transportation.
