A woman has died after a tree fell on a house in Egodawatte road, Madampe. Another person was left severely injured.

The injured is a 38-year-old man, while the deceased is his wife, 36.

At least nine people were killed following the heavy rains that hit the island, while 27,993 families with 97,141 people were affected.

A large number of roads were blocked with earth and rocks restricting transportation, and houses were flooded.

Three in the same family died when landslides hit line rooms in Deniswatte, Dehiowita in Kegalle.

The 52-year-old individual who was swept by the floods in the Kegalu Oya while attempting to pick coconuts, has not been found. 

In addition, a 43-year-old individual of Panawala in Eheliyagoda was killed yesterday when an earth embankment collapsed on him. 

His wife and son who received injuries in the incident have been hospitalized.

A 10 month old baby has drowned after he fell inside his flooded house.

Another man died when a tree fell on him, last evening, in Kamburugamuwa area in Matara, while lightning claimed a life in Gonapura area in Galle.
