A special event was held yesterday (Monday 16th) to educate all Parliamentarians on the Right to Information Bill that was tabled in the House in March.

The event launched by the government and the United States Embassy in Colombo yesterday morning.

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap addressing the event said Right to Information (RTI) in accordance with due legislature will make Sri Lanka a better place.

Atul Keshap added the government’s work pertaining to ensuring Right to Information will send a clear message to the international community.

Meanwhile Minister Lakshman Kiriella said the Right to Information is a basis of democracy.

The Right to Information draft bill was tabled by Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathileke in Parliament on the 24th of March.
