The number of people affected by the prevailing extreme weather has exceeded 200 thousand and displaced 134 thousand.

The disaster management Centre stated that nine deaths have been reported while eight persons are still missing.

Meanwhile it has also been reported that the on-going rescue operations at the site of the landslide in Kadugannawa have been hindered due to persistent rainfall.

Two houses were destroyed by the landslide last night. 3 of the 6 persons who were missing have been recovered. The search continues for the remaining three residents.

Meanwhile the National Building Research Institute states that the landslide warning issued for the districts of Matale, Badulla, Moneragala, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kalutara and Kurunegala are still in effect.

At the same time, low line areas along the banks of Kelani River have been affected as the river has started to overflow.

Meanwhile Aththanagalu Oya, Maha Oya and Yan Oya in Horow-pathana have reached spill level.
