About seventeen bodies were recovered and 150 people were rescued from the landslide area of Aranayake, Mawanella a short while ago, Military spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said.

About five bodies were recovered and 150 people were rescued from the landslide area of Aranayake, Mawanella yesterday evening, Military spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said.

Meanwhile two bodies were recovered from Bulathkohupitiya, police said. 

Meanwhile, 150 houses were destroyed in the Saamasara Kanda area in Aranayaka – Kegalle, in a landslide.

Police stated that 800 persons were affected by the situation prevalent in the area.

The Army, Disaster Management Centre and the Police are conducting rescue operations.

Meanwhile, search operations are continuing to locate the 4 missing persons following a landslide in Ilukwaththa in Kadugannawa, Kandy.

Bodies of two persons were found yesterday.
