The Disaster Management Center states that the number people affected by the disaster hit regions have exceeded 346, 241.

23 persons have got injured and 211 houses were destroyed while 196 thousand 254 persons are staying in makeshift camp of 22 districts.

The District Secretariat of Gampaha is seeking public assistance in providing relief to the displaced persons following heavy rain and floods.

The Secretariat requests the public to provide dry rations, drinking water and other sanitary items.

The met department states that the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal has developed in to a depression and is located 280km’s north of Kankasanturai.

It has moved away from the island and as a result rainy conditions, particularly in the North of the Island will gradually reduce during next few days

However, rain and strong winds are expected to persist in the South-west, particularly in coastal regions.

Duty Meteorologist Srimal Herath stated that heavy falls, exceeding 100 mili meters are likely in certain regions.
