The CID informed Court today that the investigations looking into the death of Sumith Prasanna from Embilipitiya has been concluded.
The Case of Sumith Prasanna, who died in a clash with police during a party in Maha Ela was taken before Embilipitiya Chief Magistrate Nilmini Vitharana today.
Earlier Additional Magistrate Prasanna Fernando had given a deadline that the investigation be concluded by today.
The CID further informed Court that it has sought the Attorney General’s instructions to arrest other suspects in connection with this Case.
At this juncture, the lawyer who appeared for the affected party, told Court that there it is not necessary to seek the Attorney General’s instruction in order to arrest the suspects.
He also said the CID has authority to arrest the suspects based on the findings from the investigations and the witnesses of the grieved party are intimidated as suspects are still at large.
The lawyer stated the investigations have been dragged out over four months and, requested that the suspects be arrested without further delay.
