Prepare Programme for Repairing Houses after Waters Recede; President

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed officials to give priority to essential requirements when providing relief to those affected by floods and landslides/

Food, Health and Safety and Shelter has been named as priorities.

President Sirisena has also emphasized on the need to have a programme in place to repair houses affected, once flood waters recede.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that from today the army will be deployed to all locations for protecting the properties of people affected by disaster.

Making a special statement at Temple Trees yesterday the Prime Minister requested the people staying in houses at a risk in the face of floods to evacuate immediately.

Expressing his views on this occasion Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the Government had set apart 300 million rupees for providing relief to the distressed.

The Minister said that accordingly money would be provided for work including repairing of houses without any consideration of house owner’s status.
