Jayanthi Kuru-uthumpala has successfully ascended to the summit of the highest mountain in the world – the Everest – this morning.
She marked a milestone by becoming the first Sri Lankan ever to reach the summit of the Everest.
The organizers of the Everest Ascend noted that Jayanthi Kuru-uthumpala and Yohan Pieris, who’s accompanying her, have reached the final stage of the ascend.
Jayanthi Kuru-uthumpala and Yohan Pieris commenced scaling the 8,488 meters tall Everest on the 16th of April this year.
Jayanthi Kuru-uthumpala who ascended the Everest, which extends across Nepal and Tibet belongs to the Himalayan mountain range, has trained and gained experience to achieve the feat by trekking the Knuckles mountain range as well as the mountains in South Africa and Argentina.
