The Education Ministry says that if as a result of the island’s inclement weather school uniforms have been destroyed, permission has been granted for school children to attend school dressed in alternate appropriate clothing.

Minister in charge Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told our news team that information had been received to the effect that consequent to the heavy rain that persisted throughout the past several days school children’s uniforms had been destroyed.

In coincidence with the downpour over the past few days all schools were closed last Friday.

However Minister Kariyawasam said that educational activities will be resumed today as usual.

However while it has been decided to indefinitely close down 52 schools in the Sabaragamuwa Province, schools in the Kolonnawa and Kaduwela areas will remain closed today and tomorrow.
