More rains expected as the South-west monsoon gradually establish

South-west monsoon condition is gradually establishing over the country, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, North-Western, Southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Fairly heavy to heavy falls (around 75-100mm) are also likely at some places.

Meanwhile, more showers or thunder showers will occur at several places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Strong windy conditions over the country and in the sea areas around the island will continue further particularly over the Southern, Eastern and Northern sea areas.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to disasters resulting from the inclement weather has risen to 94 and 107 persons still remain missing.

The Disaster Management Centre said that 126 thousand 666 persons still remain at safe locations after being displaced due to the inclement weather that affected 22 districts.

Director of the Irrigation Department’s Water Management Division Prema Hettiarachchi stated that the water level of Kelani River continues to recede.
