Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi has called for a report from the Navy Commander with regard to an incident of Eastern Province Chief Minister Ahamed Naseer blaming a navy officer during a function at a school in Trincomalee.
Defence Secretary said this in response to a query posed by our news team made with regard to the incident.
Video footage provided by an individual at the event showed the Provincial Chief Minister Ahamed Naseer severely scolding a navy officer during a Prize-giving at an Eastern Province School.
The Eastern Province Chief Minister thus behaved in the presence of former Defence Secretary and Eastern Province Governor Austin Fernando and US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Athul Keshap.
Several guests led by the Chief Minister were present at a prize-giving of the Trincomalee – Sampur Maha Vidyalaya last Friday.
During the function the Chief Minister had thus reprimanded Sampur Camp Commandant Captain Ranjith Premaratne.
On this occasion a hand of the Eastern Province Chief Minister struck the face of a student who participated in the Prize-giving due to the Chief Minister’s enraged behaviour.
However expressing his views about the incident, Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said that the report called for from the Navy Commander with regard to the incident was scheduled to be received today.
