Afghan Taliban has confirmed that former leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in a U.S. drone strike last week. A successor was appointed, it said.
According to a statement by the group the new leader is Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada who was a deputy to Mansour.
He was chosen at a special Taliban leaders’ meeting.
Mansour was killed in Pakistan on Saturday in a U.S. airstrike.
