G.C.E (O/L) Application Deadline Extended

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that the closing date for applications for the GCE Ordinary Level examination has been extended until June 10th.

Addressing a media conference at the Disaster Management Centre, the minister said that the closing date has been extended after considering the natural disaster the occurred recently.

The minister further stated that the government has decided to provide two sets of uniforms to the students who were affected by the disaster.

Reports have indicated that 28 students in Sabaragamuwa killed in the disaster, while 63,000 persons remain displaced.

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said the search operations in Samasara Village are still continuing.

In addition, Civil Defence Force Director Major Vajira Kumaratunga said that the cleaning of flood hit areas will be continued today, for the third consecutive day.

Meanwhile, Director of the weather forecast unit of the Met Department Sarath Premalal said that strong winds could be expected in southern slopes of the central hills and coastal areas of the island this evening.
